Kenyan social media sensation, Elsa Majimbo, hit the headlines on Thursday, January 20, when American TV and Radio presenter Steve Harvey promised her his full support.
Majimbo, who went viral globally through videos posted on her digital platforms at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, made a guest appearance on one of Steve Harvey’s TV shows.
In a video she posted online yesterday, Harvey was chuffed by her abilities and noted that he had adopted her.
“I’ll adopt you as my niece. I’ll give you my phone number. I don’t care what you need, just call me,” Harvey promised.
“One of my main goals has been to bridge the gap between Africa and African-Americans. Elsa, you’ve got an uncle in the United States,” Harvey added, attracting applause from the attending crowd.
This was not the first time the Kenyan sensation has been embraced by global stars.
In September 2020, Majimbo revealed that she had landed a lucrative deal with American singer Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Cosmetics as a brand ambassador.
“My 19-year-old self literally got a chance to work with Fenty Official. I’m so proud! Thanking the Fenty fam they’ve been so amazing and Rihanna for this amazing brand,” she posted on her Instagram platforms at the time.
Majimbo also revealed the letter she got from the singer at the beginning of her career. In the letter, Rihanna wrote: “You a baddie and you know it. And your reel was fire!” Rihanna signed off the letter as ‘Your childhood friend’.
Lupita Nyong’o also showed her support in May 2020, tweeting: “Elsa Majimbo has been making me laugh recently. If you haven’t seen her comedy videos yet, go follow her right now!”
American rapper Snoop Dogg, last year, shared one of her Instagram reels, in which Elsa is seen eating crisps while describing why she cannot hang out with people due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The video went viral, gaining over 12 million views on Instagram reels.
Majimbo has since been featured on global media platforms like the Guardian, New York Times, CNN, and BBC. She also won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite African Social Star in 2020.
